Recommending complementary or related products to an existing customer based on what they have already purchased.

Cross-selling is the 'customers who bought X also bought Y' strategy. A customer who buys a coffee machine is a natural target for a cross-sell of coffee beans or a descaling kit. Automated cross-sell sequences use purchase history data to send highly relevant product recommendations at the right time — typically 7-14 days after the original purchase when the customer is actively using their new product. Amazon attributes roughly 35% of its revenue to cross-sell and upsell recommendations.
